About sixty teenagers gathered in the diocese of Scranton at St. John Neumann Regional Academy, Williamsport, PA for a Catholic Youth Rally on Saturday, June 15, 2018.  Romans 12:2 was the basis of the theme, “Transformed”.  “Do not be conformed to this world but be TRANSFORMED by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good, acceptable and perfect.”  The young people responded enthusiastically to the messages of encouragement and challenge.  Christ is the only Truth.  Living the Truth calls for effort and dedication. Sisters from five religious communities and three diocesan priests attended the rally.  Sr. Joseph Marie, Sr. Barbara Maloy, and Sr. Joseph Deirdre participated and felt young again! One message they brought home was the quiet fervor of the youths during the Eucharistic Adoration. They gazed, prayed, and sang with passion and zeal.  Let us pray the Holy Spirit falls afresh on them and transforms them in God’s love.

R.I.P Sister M. Benigna Consolata, O.Carm.

Sister M. Benigna Consolata, O.Carm.

On the morning of Thursday, June 21, 2018 while sitting in her chair, fully clothed in her habit, waiting for a Sister to take her to meet her Lord at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, Jesus came for Sr. Benigna Himself and took her to the Beatific Vision instead. She was in the 82 nd year of her religious life, and approaching her 102nd birthday!

Marie Bernadette Palmiere was born on September 2, 1916 in New York City to Rosario and Carmella (nee Dottoli) Pinizzotta. Entering the Congregation on June 19, 1936, less than seven years after its founding, Sr. Benigna received the habit on March 13, 1937, made her first profession of vows on March 17, 1938 and professed perpetual vows on December 9, 1942.  Her first mission was Mt. Carmel Home, NY (1938-1958) after which she served at St. Joseph’s Seminary and Mater Christi Seminary.  Her many other missions included Marian Manor, Carmel Hall, Carmel Manor, St. Mary’s Home, Lourdes Residence, St. Rita’s Home, Catholic Memorial Home, St. Patrick’s Manor, The Pennsylvania, Mary Manning Walsh Home, St. Raphael’s Home, and Madonna Residence.  Sr. Benigna was missioned at St. Patrick’s Home in June of 1995 where she remained until her death.  During that time she enjoyed going to the Activities Department and spending time visiting the residents.  She was loved very much by all, and during her later years was well cared for by the Sisters and staff of St. Patrick’s Home.

Sr. Benigna Consolata lived a full life and kept the Sisters laughing. She was always interested in knowing about vocations to our Congregation and prayed fervently for this intention.  She loved to sing and dance, and at her 80 th Jubilee in 2016 - with a little help from her Sisters - Sr. Benigna danced joyfully in celebration.  Now her joy will know no bounds as she sheds the burden of her years and leaps for joy as she dances before the Lord!

Jubilee Celebrations 2018

Saturday, June 02, 2018 | Comments (0) | Permalink

On June 2, 2018, Saint Teresa’s Motherhouse at Avila-on-Hudson celebrated with our Carmelite Sisters who are commemorating their respective 70, 60 and 50 years of religious jubilees. As in times past, the celebration began with a festive Jubilee Socials on the eve of the Congregational Mass on June 2nd. The friends, family members and Sisters who were able to travel joined to thank God in fraternity for the many graces He has bestowed on our Jubilarians.  By their 930 years (and counting) of combined dedication, love and service to the elderly and our congregation, one cannot help but break into thanksgiving and praise!

On June 2, 2018, Father James Price, C.P, along with other invited members of the clergy, celebrated the Jubilee Mass at Saint Teresa's Chapel.  We are so grateful to the Carmelite pre-novices who made the liturgical celebration richer by their participation. We thank friends and families for joining us in the celebrations.  It was a graced moment for all present in very many ways.

After the Eucharistic liturgy, everyone proceeded to Carmel Hall for the reception.  God bless our dear Jubilarians!
