Silver Jubilee Opening of the Cause for Venerable Mary Angeline

Tuesday, September 12, 2017 | Comments (0) | Permalink

The 25th Anniversary of the Opening of Venerable Mary Angeline Teresa McCrory's Cause for Beatification and Canonization was celebrated on September 10, 2017 at Saint Teresa's Motherhouse in Germantown, New York.  Venerable Mary Angeline Teresa founded the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm on September 3, 1929 and pioneered a way of caring for the elderly that has become a standard of care today.  Bishop Howard Hubbard, who was then bishop of the Diocese of Albany and who knew Mother personally, was the principal celebrant at the Eucharistic celebration held in the Sisters'  chapel to honor the occasion.  Very Reverend Mario Esposito, O.Carm., Vice-Postulator, was the homilist.  Rev. Roberto Perez, O.Carm. and Rev. Joseph Finch also concelebrated.

Below is Father Mario's homily.

New Community of Sisters

Story Contribution: Mother Mark Louis Anne, O.Carm.

Sr. Peter and I were invited to the Reception ceremony in Buffalo, NY, of our former Interns, Nicolette and Kristen, as well as Lindsay, who joined them later on. They are trying to form a diocesan community dedicated to the new evangelization. Bishop Malone is very happy to have potential religious dedicated to this apostolate. They are known as the Marian Franciscans, and will begin a canonical year of Novitiate with the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity, Mother of the Church, in Bolton, Connecticut. Their Franciscan formation will be handled by the Franciscans TOR Sisters.

The ceremony was held in Our Lady’s Chapel in the Cathedral. The Bishop asked the usual questions, they processed out with their habits, changed and returned. They then received their religious names. They are very happy to take the next step. Keep them in prayer. “If it is of God, it will prosper.”

Fatima Day and Rosary Rally

Thursday, August 17, 2017 | Comments (0) | Permalink

On August 13, 2017, the Carmelite Sisters hosted a Rosary Rally on the occasion of the 100th Anniversary Jubilee Celebration of the Apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima.  This day in 1917 would have been the promised day Our Lady was to appear to the children of Fatima, but because of the children's imprisonment, the apparition occurred on August 19, 1917 instead.  You can read the details of the apparitions HERE.   The public event was held at Saint Teresa's Motherhouse, Avila-on-Hudson in Germantown, New York.  In partnership with the Albany Division of the World Apostolate of Fatima / Blue Army, a special statue of Our Lady of Fatima was brought to the Motherhouse. We were privileged to welcome as our speaker, Professor Americo Lopez-Ortiz, President of the World Apostolate of Fatima International.  Pope Francis has granted a plenary indulgence for this Jubilee Year of the Fatima Apparitions.  You can read about it HERE.

The Eucharistic Sacrifice was celebrated by Very Rev. Mario Esposito and with Rev. Justin Cinnante, O.Carm. as concelebrant.  You can read Father Mario's homily below.

Father Christopher Iannizzotto, O.Carm. Bids Farewell to St. Patrick's Home

Wednesday, August 16, 2017 | Comments (0) | Permalink

by Janet Kibassa, Contributing Author

For the past ten years Fr. Christopher has faithfully served the residents and staff at St. Patrick’s Home. He offered Mass three times per week, brought the Sacraments to the sick, offered spiritual comfort to the residents who are at the end of life and support to their families. He also heard confessions and was in general a friend to all.

“Fr. Chris” as he was called, never refused to assist the Pastoral Care staff St. Pats even though he had a full schedule at St. Simon Stock, St. Josephs and teaching in St. Simon Stock School. He just love being a Carmelite Priest and coming to St. Patrick’s Home.  He was always very patient, kind, easy to talk to, and understanding even in the most challenging situations.  Fr. Chris always said “Sometimes we are all blessed in many ways and I am not sure who received more blessings, the people at St. Patrick’s Home or myself.”  Everyone at St. Patrick’s Home wishes “Fr. Chris” many blessings as he begin his new ministry at the church and school of St. Jude in Boca Raton Florida. We are all sad to see our much loved “Fr. Chris” leave us for his new assignment.

Thank you “Fr. Chris,” for all you have done for all of us and we will always keep you in our heart and prayers.

LETTER OF THE PRIOR GENERAL ON THE SOLEMNITY OF OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL

Saturday, July 15, 2017 | Comments (0) | Permalink

Most Rev. Fernando Millan Romeral, O.Carm.

Prior General Carmelite Order of the Ancient Observance

Dear brothers and sisters of the Carmelite family:

The feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is approaching and, like every year, I want to send you an affectionate greeting with my most sincere congratulations. I hope that the feast and all the celebrations of these days (novenas, processions, religious and cultural events, etc.) will be an occasion to honor Mary under this title so popular and endearing and so dear to all of us Carmelites. May these celebrations touch our hearts, inspire our living of the charism, and transform our lives so that we become more and more faithful to the values of the Gospel.

I would like to present again this year the outline of the novena that has been made by the people in charge of the website of our Order, based on texts by writers, mystics, and Carmelite saints. May this novena help us, guided by the hand of Mary, to enter the depth of the mystery of our faith.

The Carmelite Institute of North America held this year’s symposium at Loyola University in Chicago, IL on June 25-29, 2017.  Sr. Helena and Sr. Philomena traveled to attend this wonderful Carmelite event. The theme chosen was “Pope Francis Points the Way to Carmel.”  The Holy Father’s encyclical “Laudato Si” was the major point of reference for many of the speakers’ talks. The symposium was well represented by over 100 attendees of Friars, Nuns, Sisters and Lay Carmelites, as well as Carmelite Brothers and Sisters in initial formation.  Our own Sr. Anthony, Sr. Kathleen, Sr. Lois Ann and Sr. Raphael from Saint Patrick's Residence in Naperville, IL were able to travel and to join us during one of the conference days! The Symposium opened with the Opening Remarks by Edith Matlock, Executive Director of the Carmelite Institute and the Welcome Address by Very Reverend William J. Harry, O.Carm. Chairman of the Board and Prior Provincial of The Most Pure Heart of Mary. Most Rev. Fernando Millan Romeral, Prior General of the Carmelite Order of the Ancient Observance, was present and opened the conference with his talk on “The Carmelite Family Responding to the Holy Father’s Initiatives in Renewing the Life of Our Church.” Several other speakers presented relevant topics as follows:

Brother Patrick Mullins, O.Carm. member of the Carmelite Institute of Britain and Ireland presented on “The Carmelite Rule (1247) and Pope Francis on the Implications of the Parable of the Good Samaritan.”

It was an honor for the Carmelite Institute to have Cardinal Blasé J. Cupich of the Archdiocese of Chicago celebrate Mass during one of the symposium days. The last day of the Symposium was a banquet held in honor of the late Father Patrick McMahon, O.Carm. who passed away in August of last year and was President of the Carmelite Institute since its inception.

The National Shrine of Saint Therese

On June 22, three days before the Carmelite Institute Symposium started, Sr. Philomena and Sr. Helena took a day to visit the newly renovated National Shrine of Saint Therese in Darien, IL. They attended Holy Mass and was given a special tour of the newly opened replica of the cell of St. Therese by one of our Carmelite friars, Father Bernie, O.Carm. The door of her cell and the floor tiles from the Saint’s anteroom where she met with her novices were originals donated by the Lisieux Carmel to the shrine. It was an awesome feeling to be touching the door where St. Therese probably held herself up as she entered her cell during those times that she suffered intense exhaustion from her illness!

Vietnamese Day at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel

Mother Angeline McCrory Manor Celebrates Nurses Week

Thursday, June 15, 2017 | Comments (0) | Permalink

Story and Photos contributed by Kathy Drufke - Mother Angeline McCrory Manor

The Nurses Week was celebrated nationally on May 6-12, 2017.  The Nursing Staff of Mother Angeline McCrory Manor and The Villas At Saint Therese were honored with a blessing of hands by Fr. Raymond Maher, O.Carm. and a special Italian luncheon. Gifts and a raffle were added to the enjoyment of all.  There were approximately 45 nurses in attendance. The Statue of Venerable Mary Angeline Teresa was dedicated and blessed as part of the celebration. The following was the prayer that Fr. Raymond Maher, O.Carm. offered for this dedication:

"Almighty and eternal God, it does not displease You that images of Your saints are sculpted or painted. For as often as we look on these images with our bodily eyes, so often do we consider the actions of Your saint with our mind's eye and ponder their sanctity for our imitation.Be so good, we beg of You, as to bless and sanctify this statue made in honor of Venerable Angeline Teresa McCrory, foundress of the Carmelite Sister for the Aged and Infirm and the one to whose memory this home is dedicated. Grant that whoever in the presence of this statue humbly pays devout reverence to Mother Angeline may through her merits and intercession win grace in this life and everlasting glory in the world to come through Christ Our Lord. AMEN."
